It’s a dark September night in 2008, and three people have no idea what’s about to hit them ...

North of Baghdad, Jake Stewart, a legendary Delta Force operator, has tracked the emir of Al Qaeda to his lair and called in a drone strike that will eliminate him. It's a moment of triumph, but Jake's still recovering from Marla Duncan, a Marine attack helicopter pilot who saved his life and became his lover before marrying someone else. In coastal North Carolina, Jake's sister Kate teaches anthropology, grieves for her lost husband, and feels a hopeful attraction to Percy Collum, a popular African-American history professor who is also Jake's friend and Arabic teacher. South of Baghdad, Omar Rashid, an Iraqi farmer and former resistance fighter, has been rescued from jail by a mysterious group after a year of humiliation and torture. He's headed home, looking forward to a peaceful life with his wife and children.

Then, without warning, Jake and Omar are hit by shocks that upend their lives and put them on a collision course. As their paths converge, Kate, Percy and Marla are inexorably drawn into the escalating spiral of fear and conflict. Suddenly, they must all face the darkness in their own pasts as they make choices that will be tragic or redemptive for them – and for America, as it races toward election eve.

I'm not usually drawn to military thrillers, but this book was recommended by a close friend and I thought I would try it out. I found the characters fully-developed and intriguing. The issues are complicated and compelling. How does a soldier meld the parts of his or her psyche when doing the deadly work they are asked to do and then relate to friends and relatives who have no idea what they are capable of? What are any of us who believe we are non-violent capable of when our children or other loved ones are in danger? How does war value some children over others? What are paramilitary organizations doing in American wars and how do they operate outside the boundaries of conventions agreed upon by nations? Is it easier to direct a drone attack from thousands of miles away or fight in close combat and what effect does each decision have on the combatants?

In between the friendly dialogue and languid activities back home, difficult situations emerge which left me thinking about issues I don't usually have to face. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes thrillers and fast action with thought-provoking ideas. Also, there are some women in this book who are awesome! Don't think this is just about or for men.

Drone Strike edition by Nathan Mosby Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Good story. Could use some additional editing. Different views represented in this novel. I liked it and would recommend it.
This action-packed and thought-provoking novel brings the very contemporary debate about drone deployment into clear focus. Well drawn characters dealing with realistic life situations made likeable by a deft sense of humor. The background knowledge and research recall Tom Clancy’s best works. I look forward to more stories by this insightful author and new chapters of these characters’ lives. And I thank the author for telling this story.
Drone Strike is a very enjoyable read, with plenty of action, a great plot twist, and a thoughtful take on the complexities of war. I particularly enjoyed the sections in Iraq, where one of the main characters weaves himself into the rich tapestry of a local community. He's an American soldier, but appreciates the beauty and subtlety of the local culture.

I'm looking forward to reading more about these characters!
A rather action-packed novel with a few twists that are reasonable but unorthodox! Again, an engaging book that is NOT going to win any awards but is going to entertain you, which was the reason I selected the book to read...
In his debut novel, Mosby weaves a riveting tale of how disparate and seemingly unrelated characters scattered around the world now find their lives intertwined in strange and unforeseen ways. To many Americans, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and post-911 Moslem terrorism seem remote. Through the veil of culture clash, Mosby brings them home with an unrelenting immediacy. An engrossing read - pick it up and you won't put it down!
This is a book you won't want to put down. Detailed settings and good dialogue set the tone. The author introduces you to a cast of engaging characters before you realize where the story is going. The story of the consequences of the new business of warfare is both timely and thought provoking. The twist on corporate greed adds a surprising element. You'll want to hear more about Jake/Stalker in a sequel but it's the women who save the day that you'll want to meet again.
A good yarn, Drone Strike, follows the intrigues that ensue from a fateful encounter one dark night in Baghdad. Weaving together the lives of soldiers on the ground; techies ensconced back in the States; and a crazy quilt of friends, foes, families, and lovers; Nathan Mosby constructs a web of secret operatives propelled by devotions both sublime and mundane. The pace rarely slackens as the wary and the unwitting converge toward an explosive rendezvous.

The action centers around Stalker, an agile agent whose linguistic talents further facilitate his clandestine movements. With both humor and a steady moral compass, Mosby’s Stalker engages in cutting edge warfare while steamy, if brief, amorous intrigues add spice to the plot. Although the genre is not my usual choice, I was soon into this globe hopping tale, lured by sharply observed details, an up-to-the-minute story line, and a refreshing brace of savvy female combatants. I’m left wondering just how closely it cleaves to the realities of present day counterintelligence. One thing’s for sure, I’ll be keeping my eye out for the sequel.
